interfacefoundation.jpgEveryone who follows some strand of entertainment news knows that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are very much involved with charities. Last year alone, the couple gave over $8 million dollars to various charities- they support Doctors Without Borders, Global AIDS Alliance, and other similar organizations. The pair also visit and donate to various orphanages. Most recently, through their foundation, The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, they donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders for the relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

To most people outside of the celebrity circuit, Angelina and Brad are synonymous with giving and charity work. But, they are certainly not the only celebrities who give back. Many other stars also make great efforts to help out those in need.

The Entertainment Industry Foundation funds more than 300 charitable organizations within the Los Angeles area and throughout the nation. A lot of well known celebrities work with EIF and their charities, donating money and time to a variety of worthy causes. This fall, Matthew McConaughey helped the EIF by creating a series of public service announcements encouraging people to give back to all the veterans and military families who have given so much to serve our country. Also this fall, Christina Applegate assisted Lee Jeans in donating to the women’s cancer programs associated with the EIF. In a single day, they were able to raise about $4 million dollars for breast cancer research. Morgan Freeman helped out this October by encouraging Americans to donate their time to the health of others. Freeman’s PSAs ask people to give back by helping others.

Another foundation that many celebrities work with is the Interface Foundation. The goal of this foundation is to build a global community and have everyone working together to change the world. A lot of celebrities are global ambassadors for Interface, including Paris Hilton (pictured above with Interface founder, Scott Lazerson), Lindsay Lohan, Simon Rex, Jeremy Piven, Lance Bass, and Eric Mabius. Together, they help the foundation reach their main goals like eradicating poverty, enforcing education, reducing hunger and child mortality, and combating AIDS.

Many celebrities have even started their own organizations and made the effort to create something worthwhile themselves. Whether you donate time or money, being able to associate your name with an organization that gives back is something everyone should do (even if you aren’t a celebrity). Take the time to read up on how your favorite celebrities are helping out and how you can do something similar in your own town. Check out the Entertainment Industry Foundation or the Interface Foundation as well for more information.
