When Pearl Jam hit the scene in 1990 the band was a product of broken bands and dreams. None of them could comprehend the amount of success they would achieve and the good they are able to do for everyone around them with benefit concerts, free concerts, and charities. With only a few changes to drummers over the years, they have kept the same band members, while each member has worked on different projects and bands they always came back to be Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam was called Mookie Blaylock in 1991 then after touring with Alice In Chains and starting to work on their debut album "ten" they changed there name to Pearl Jam. The album was released in August of 1991 and reached #2 on the top 200 billboards, making them an instant success.  In 1994 they launched a boycott against TicketMaster for charging fans too much, and promised not to use them for their tour. TicketMaster in return told promoters not to let Pearl Jam play in their venues or they would be breaking their contract with TicketMaster. Pearl Jam was able to play a smaller tour in out-of-the-way venues. About this time the U.S. Justice Department approached the band about filing a memo with them under their anti-trust division due to Ticket Master holding all big venues and being able to push bands to do what they want or not tour at all. Pearl Jam agreed to file the memo and followed it through until late in 1994 when the U.S. Justice Department dropped the case stating that with other ticket agency's coming into play that ticket master no longer holds all the cards against bands. In June of 1999 they released "Last Kiss" to fan club members but it was leaked it to radio stations, soon it was requested all over North America forcing the band to release it as a single it peaked at #2 within the first week on billboards Hot 100 singles chart, it was the highest charting single of the bands career to that date.

In 2000, Pearl Jam was touring in Europe they were perfuming before 50,000 fans when the crowd surged into the mosh pit killing 8 men instantly and a 9th 5 days later. The band was traumatized, they canceled the rest of the tour and fell silent after posting a message on their website stating, "There are absolutely no words to express our anguish." After time they did return to touring, but still refused to discuss the incident.

Since then they have continued to release albums, tour. At the moment they are touring the U.S. with talks of hitting the studio this winter. With 8 studio albums under their belt, they have come a long way in the 18 years they have been around. I can't wait to see what they come up with next. I can bet we all will be surprised.
