Everyone has problems in their lives. Whether its school, friends, or family, it is always hard to find someone you trust to ask for help. That’s where HeyJosh.com comes in. Created by Josh Shipp, HeyJosh.com seeks to give and get advice from teens all over, “advice for the digital generation”.
Growing up as a foster child, Shipp learned life’s lessons through experience. Rather than giving up, Josh believes that “the very thing that hurt you the most is the very thing you can use to help others.” And that is what HeyJosh is looking to do. Taking the role of the “slightly wiser older brother”, Josh Shipp is giving logical, smart advice with a hint of comedic undertones. The advice Josh dishes out is “in your face, but on your side”. However, Shipp is not the only one who gives advice on the site. Visitors of the site are also able to comment on other’s problems, giving the person seeking advice multiple perspectives. Often, these comments are supportive and helpful to the advice seeker. Much of the advice people ask for have to do with relationships: friendships and romantic. In regards to such questions, Josh is straightforward and helpful. “Ultimately, finding the right person is a numbers game…if you’re going to date online, just be safe…” Common sense, yet his advice is something that teens listen to. Shipp’s ability to connect with teenagers on a better level is due to the fact that he approaches a problem in a youth-friendly manner. He talks to teens as if he were their humorous, concerned friend, not an authoritative parental figure. And perhaps, this is the reason for his great success. The site also includes polls, contests, and articles necessary for functioning in the 21st century, with topics like “Help! My Friend is a Vegetarian” and “How Do I Make a Budget?” With a channel on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace, Josh is dominating the advice world on and offline. Already successful in becoming a youth speaker and the National Foster Care spokesperson, Josh has a book in development, a DVD series in the works, and has a monthly advice columnist in CosmoGirl magazine. Josh’s hard work and witty advice has paid-off. His ability to reach out to teenagers, talk to, and help them is astounding. Called “the Dr. Phil for teens” by FOX, judging by his early success, Josh Shipp is already an advice guru in his own right. Check out HeyJosh.com!
