Paint It Like Lady Gaga

ladygagamakeup.jpgKnown for her catchy tunes, stunning performances. and, of course, her extravagant make-up. If you think about the “black lightning bolt” down her right cheek, you know it can only be Lady Gaga. The American singer and dancer Lady Gaga has WOW’ed us with her make-up in every video clip and every concert … and now Teen Scene shows how you too can Paint it Like Lady Gaga!

Create a look perfect for costume parties, rock concerts, or onstage performances, or simply to make an impact wherever you go! Follow these simple steps to recreate your own Lady Gaga look.

Step #1: Preparation – You can’t start a job if you’re halfway in another one. You can’t start to cook dinner if you haven’t cleaned your bench from teatime. You also can’t apply to your face without giving it a proper clean beforehand. This will get rid of the dead cells or dirt lingering on your skin. A toner will complete the cleaning process, as well as tone and soften your skin. Finally, moisturise your face with an oil-free moisturiser, which will leave your face perfect to begin applying make-up.

Teen Scene recommends:
Caudalie’s Instant Foaming Cleanser, $26
Sephora’s Soothing Face Toner, $5
Decleor’s Instant Radiance Moisturiser, $56

Step #2: Flawless Foundation – Staring wishfully at Lady Gaga’s flawless face in her music clips does become rather addictive after a while. Rather than waste money on the amount of time you spend online watching her, we’ve figured out how to reconstruct her smooth skin on your own face. To start with, dab liquid foundation on your forehead, cheeks and chin and gently blend it in with a foundation brush. Hide any dark circles or blemishes with a concealer, preferably a colour that matches your skin tone, and blend it in with a brush. A finishing powder will set your liquid foundation. Brush the excess away with a Kabuki brush.

Teen Scene recommends:
Stila’s Illuminating Liquid Foundation, $38
Smashbox’s Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer, $18
Make-Up Forever’s HD Microfinish Powder, $30
Make-Up Forever’s HD Kabuki Brush, $39

Step #3: Get the Gaga Glow – Lightly sweep bronzer (in Sunkissed or Warm Tan) on your nose, cheeks and forehead to give them Lady Gaga’s glowing, radiant look.

Teen Scene recommends:
Clinique’s True Bronze Pressed Powder Bronzer, $23.50

Step #4: Eye Candy – Are you wondering how Lady Gaga manages to apply such thick eyeshadow without any creasing? Wonder no longer because the secret is … eyeshadow primer! One layer of a clear eyeshadow primer is all the preparation your eyes need for a much fuller eyeshadow that lasts all day long. Apply a silver-coloured eyeshadow to your whole eyelid and smooth it over with an eyeshadow blending brush. For the balls of your eyelids, you will need another (thicker) coating of silver eyeshadow. Apply a grey eyeshadow around the outer pockets of your eyelids, right down to your eyelash line, to emphasise the silver colour. Highlight the browbone with a white eyeshadow to create luminous-looking eyes. Line your eyes with liquid eyeliner, shaking your hand slightly as you do so, to create a slightly smudged effect. Go all the way to the corners of your eyes. Next, apply a thin line of eyelash adhesive glue to a set of flash lashes. Wait for a while whilst the glue sets before sticking the false lashes on your eyes, adjusting them accordingly. Hold them there firmly for a couple of seconds. This prevents the glue from becoming tacky. There may now be gaps in your eyeliner where the false lashes have covered part of it, so reline your eyes. Curling your lashes will also help to shape your real lashes, so that they don’t stick out against your false ones. Heavily coat your eyelashes in mascara to cement your eyelashes together.

Teen Scene recommends:
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $17
Kat Von D Kat Eye Brush Set, $48
Nars Single Eyeshadow (in Night Life), $22
Nars Single Eyeshadow (in Bali), $22
Nars Single Eyeshadow (in Tibet), $22
Urban Decay Liquid Eyeliner, $18
She Uemura False Lashes (Mini Khaki), $18
She Uemura Eyelash Adhesive, $8.50
She Uemura Eyelash Curler, $19

Step #5: Lips in Sync – For finishing touches (to complete the look) apply a thick layer of pale pink lipstick to your lips. You may need more than one coating to get the desired effect.

Teen Scene recommends:
Dior Dior Addict Ultra Shine Sheer Lipcolour (in Shiniest Softness), $24.50

Step #6: A Flash of Lightning Inspiration – Lady Gaga’s look can not be complete without her trademark. Of course, we are talking about none other than the lightning bolt on her right cheek. All you need is adhesive (false lashes adhesive is perfect) and a pre-made silver lightning bolt. You can make your own lightning bolt by cutting a zigzag shape out of silver paper or cardboard. Apply a thin layer of adhesive to the lightning bolt and press it onto her right cheek.

You will now have a completed look, so watch out Lady Gaga!
