Unlike most models who have hit their peak by age 24, Ryan Winters was just being discovered. Originally from Boston, but now living the good life in Los Angeles, Ryan is 26 years old and still enjoying a very successful modeling career.
UPDATE: Since we began our story Ryan has signed with Los Angeles-based modeling agency, Jordan McKirahan Talent. Congrats, Ryan!
When did you start modeling and how did you get discovered?
I started modeling back in May 2007. I was discovered at the gym by a local photographer (I was living in San Diego at the time). We set up a test shoot and the rest is history.
Who have you modeled for? Do you have a favorite campaign you've done?
I've been lucky to work with some great photographers, designers and other models; but one of my favorite campaigns was the one I recently did for CaliGoodLife (www.caligoodlife.com) . The brand really captures the SoCal surf/beach lifestyle and it was great to be a part of that campaign.
Best and worst aspects of being a model?
Best part - loving what I do every day and getting to work with some incredibly talented people.
Worst part - I try not to focus on negativity, but I guess I could say that the business can be really cut throat at times (but it helps you build a thick skin).
What do you do to stay in model form?
I have a strict work out routine and diet. I try to spend at least 6 days a week at the gym, up to 2 hrs at a time - 40 minutes weight training, 40 minutes cardio, 20 minutes abs. It can be a lot of work and definitely takes some motivation after a long day- but I've always enjoyed being active/healthy and the results are worth it. I also love hiking/running at Runyon Canyon here in LA to stay in shape.
If you could be anything else besides a model, what would you be?
I wouldn't change my current path for anything! If I had to, it would still be something in the industry - most likely photography.
If you were a fly whose wall would you land on?
Someone who could provide inside information on my next casting opportunity, ha!
What advice do you have for aspiring models?
Never give up and follow your passion, no matter what the odds. Sounds corny, but it's true. There was a time (when I was living in Boston) that following a career in modeling seemed out of reach - and here I am today in LA following that dream. You really can make things happen if you have enough drive and determination.
