toms_shoes.jpgWe all should have seen the At&T commercial about TOMS Shoes. To refresh the memory everytime he sold one pair of shoes he would give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. This all began when Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina, where he found they had no shoes to protect their feet. This experience compelled him to help, so he created TOMS Shoes. TOMS Shoes is a company that matches every pair of shoes bought with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff with 10,000 pair of shoes made possible by TOMS customers.

The reason behind the shoes is something of importance. Most of the children developing in countries grow up barefoot. They are barefoot when at play, doing chores or just getting around. Their primary mode of transportation is walking. They can walk for miles to get food, water, shelter and medical help. Shoes enables them to walk longer distances that they would not be able to barefoot. Children can not attend school since shoes are a required part of their uniform. Since they do not have shoes, they do not go to school. Since they don’t receive an education, they do not have the opportunity to realize their potential.

TOMS sales more than just shoes though. On the TOMS website you can find shirts, hoodies, flags, hats, necklaces, stickers and gift cards. Shoes are available in a range of sizes and styles for children, men, and women. TOMS Shoes have flats and boots of all different sizes and colors. Though all of the prices may seem pricey, never forget that it is for a good cause. You can see videos of what they do on their website as well as on Youtube. So, if you need a new pair of shoes or trying to find a great gift for the holidays think about TOMS Shoes and maybe you can help a child in need.

You can help out by buying TOMS Shoes and sharing the story of this inspirational company. Another way to make a bold statement is by joining the movement to go barefoot for one day on April 8th, 2010. Share TOMS story and host a 'style your sole' party, which is where you gather people together and customize TOMS shoes. Lastly, you can stay connected and share the ONE FOR ONE movement. You can find more about this on Tomsshoes.comFacebookTwitterYoutube, and MySpace.
