rightsaidfred.jpg"I'm too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt, so sexy it hurts!" Sound familiar? This early '90's song was made popular by a band called, Right Said Fred. The band formed in 1989 by brothers Richard Fairbrass and Fred Fairbrass from East Grinstead, as well as their close buddy Mark Hollins. The group was named after a novelty song made popular by Bernard Cribbins in '62.

In 1991 came the release of "I'm Too Sexy" and it was released by the Gut Reaction Firm on a record label called Tug. This song, from the point of view of a very vain male fashion model, became a huge success in the UK. It spent 6 weeks behind Bryan Adams' song, "(Everything I do) I do it for you". The song also went to number one on the charts in the United States and went on to become a big hit all around the world.

Their second song titled, "Don't Talk Just Kiss", which featured singer Jocelyn Brown, made number three in the UK charts. In '92 they released their third single, "Deeply Dipply", which turned out to be their lowest-selling single to date, but was also up against weaker opposition and therefore became their only UK No. 1 single to date. Their debut album "Up" was released because of all their singles' success.

In 1993, they released their second album titled, "Sex and Travel", as well as their contributing regular Comic Relief single

, "Stick It Out" in February of that year. Their third album was called, "Smashing!". After failing to attract interest in the UK, Right Said Fred headed to Germany to work with Alex Christensen's U96 and then released a single called, "You're My Mate". The band also released an album titled, "Fredhead", in 2002 which was co-written and produced by Clyde Ward who is a US-based successful producer/songwriter. Both the single and the album became popular in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The single "You're My Mate", was used as the official anthem of the South African National Rugby Union Team in '02.

The second single, "Mojive," was less successful, although it has become a cult record among the three million or so members who attend the Mojive dance events after which the song was titled. The next album, "Stand UP", also reached gold status and the single of the same name reached number one in Japan. The song, written by Clyde Ward and the Fairbrass brothers, has been adopted by sports teams around the world as their main theme.

So even though this band had its ups and downs on the charts and as a band in general, they are still "too sexy" for me. I will always have that song in my heart and it will always be a favorite for the runway all over the world! To see the video for "I'm Too Sexy", visit
