Luke Pilgrim, Taylor Woodruff, and Tyler Ayers make up pop/rock band, Last November. Like so many bands, Last November began as a high school hobby for Luke and Taylor, but with undeniable talent and some luck on their side, the guys have become an indie sensation. Their latest single "Julie" from their just released third album "Tug O' War" will soon be taking over radio.
Teen Scene recently had the opportunity to chat with lead singer, Luke. Check out our Q&A below. Why did you guys decide to name yourselves "Last November"? I get that question a lot and honestly it was completely random. The first time any significance came of the name was in the song "On New Years Day" which is on our first album "All the Gory Details..." The lyrics say "This will be our last November, I'm praying I make it through December..." What was the first song you ever wrote as a group and what meaning does it have for you? I honestly can't remember. It's been years since we started this band and we have written a ton of songs! However, one song that stands out is "Addicted to You." I actually started writing that song when I was about 12 years old and then I revised the lyrics some when we recorded the first album. We still have people request that song all the time at shows though. What is your favorite song of all time? And, favorite song by Last November? I think I might go with Bob Segar's "Against the Wind." I've never been able to pick a favorite song but something about that song speaks to me. I'm a huge Beatles fan so it's hard for me to shun them this way haha! Picking a favorite song that you wrote is hard. It's like picking your favorite child. My favorite songs are always the newest ones I've written. But I guess that's the way it goes. Do you write all of your own songs? Yeppers Who would you say your biggest musical influences are? Beatles, Petty, Eagles, Jimmy Eat World, Conor Oberst Is there any band or artist you would want to collaborate with in the future? John Mayer. He's such a killer song writer. How do you feel about other bands/artists who use songs written by songwriters provided by the label? If it works for them then that's great. Some people are performers. Elvis didn't write songs. But he was the ultimate performer. So if you're a great performer then who cares who wrote your songs. Especially in country music.Nashville has the greatest song writers in the world. How can you blame them for using those tunes? How would you describe your music to people who have never heard of you guys? You know when you have a water bottle that has been filled up with soda but you were unaware of the liquid exchange? Or maybe you weren't paying attention and you grabbed the wrong drink. And you take a sip expecting water but all of the sudden you feel a rush of carbonation and sugar hitting your tongue. Kinda catches you off guard... I'm sorry what was the question? What's the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you on stage? Falling down is embarrassing. My pants haven't fallen off... yet. Quote this article on your site
