selfabsorbed.jpgHonest. Sarcastic. Opinionated. Hysterical. A few words to describe the ever growing popular self.absorbed.me’s blogger website who’s tagline is: It’s your life, we just write it funnier. The site is authored by professional writers (with nicknames such as model behaviour and subway gal) and features pieces written in shorthand as well as pieces by readers so they have the opportunity to share their own laugh inducing tales. Teen Scene caught up with the mastermind behind the scenes Brett, the creator of the blog site, to ask him a few questions about his site. There are already tons of sites that rag on celebrities, report on hot trends and give the public a sneak peak into the lives of the rich and famous. So what sets selfabsorbed.me apart from those sites? “The whole idea was to create a site about the comedy of everyday life with an emphasis on storytelling and character.”

The site features an all female cast of quirky writers who pick and choose user stories and reword them into hilarious blog posts. So why did Brett choose an all female writing cast? “The blogs I was most interested in bringing together were all written by women, and I think this is because the girl blogs we combined to make the site all shared similar thematic elements: comedy, drama, a focus on relationships, and writing quality.

A couple minutes on the site, you will be roaring with laughter at the numerous topics and pieces. Since the site is written by women, the target audience are “educated, urban, women” however Brett states that at this point, and because of the sites new found popularity, “….we may have as many, if not more, male readers.” The reliability of numerous posts always delivering high quality comedy is what makes its readers come back for more.

Browsing through the site it’s easy to see what pieces are most popular. “The best posts are the ones that get readers participating, posting comments, sharing a similar story, dissenting or submitting their own opinions,” which means its mainly controversial stories that get the users active.

On the topic of controversy, with a site like selfabsorbed.me, users may differ in opinion or feel offended. Do readers complain? “Absolutely. After your blog reaches enough people, you’re bound to get commenters who don’t’ like what you’re writing. I always like to post dissenting opinions or even mean comments. If someone’s taking the time to write in, it’s always a compliment.”

selfabsorbed.me not only has updates daily but also stays in touch with its users a fan via twitter. You can follow them and receive posts on the blogs sites as they come out. You can get the twitter name of your favorite author here http://www.selfabsorbed.me/about/ . There is also a blog feed and group on Facebook. People can subscribe here: http://apps.facebook.com/blognetworks/blog/selabsorbed.me

What’s the next step for the site? “I’d like to expand the site so there’ll be a section for user generated content beyond just the comments, with possible awards and prizes for the most entertaining story. The idea would be to create a community of users who want to laugh their way through life, entertaining and being entertained at the same time.”
