The holidays are the best time to receive gifts; from Secret Santa's to stockings by the fireplace, we expect to get (and give as many) gifts during the holiday period. However, how many of us are tired of getting multi-colored sweaters with adorable snowmen that will never leave our closets? I assume a lot of us are. And, most of us secretly wish we had something better than striped ties and gift cards to give to our loved ones. So, to help out with the holiday shopping, here is a list of some ultra cool gadgets (fair warning: they aren't cheap!) that are sure to trump any sweater or striped tie.

ASUS Eee Touch Screen PC ($497, Amazon.com)

Windows 7, Wi-Fi, Built-in Speakers, Webcam, Multiple ports for your Ipod, iphone, and others all at the tip of your fingers. The Eee PC came out earlier this year, but is still a must have.

Livescribe Pulse Smartpen ($179. Amazon.com )

A real Smart-Pen, this ultra intelligent device can take notes by recording your voice (or your Psych 100 professors voice, while you nod to your iPod or text your friend, confident that you're not missing out on anything) The efficient device also synchronizes your writing (goodbye texting your friend) with its recoding so that it's accurate. It even has an app store to let you do other creative stuff with your Smart Pen. A must need for college, it's highly recommended.

Flip Video Camcorder ($149, Amazon.com)

Capture the moment your friend executes a perfect spill down the mountain slopes, or record your brother singing in the shower, or your induction into the Greek organization you've been dying to join. All made possible by the compact Flip Video Camcorders, which come with lots of memory, a range of colors, and are smaller than many digital cameras. Perfect for capturing and quickly sharing fun moments.

Nintendo DSi ($169, Amazon.com)

With touch screen technology, dual screens that work even when the portable game system is folded backwards, the Nintendo DSi and DS Lite promises to be a world of fun (and games) for everyone. Plus, Wi-Fi to text and IM your friends who also have the DSi.

Apple iPod Touch 3G ($179, Amazon.com)

An iPod with a video camera, a polished aluminum design (no scratches!), an updated genius player to combine the songs that go together, a radio, and the ability to hold 4,000 songs or 16 hours of your favorite videos. 'Nuff said.

There are tons of other cool gadgets out there that would make this year's holidays a fun-filled period, but these are the ones that we think you'll still be using a year from now.
