As you all know many people are “going green” these days.
You may be asking yourself what exactly that is. Going green is all about
environment. It’s what’s best for the environment and what can we do to make
the environment a better place. All across the world there are many people who
are actively involved in this amazing cause. For example, if you ever seen
someone bring bags to the grocery store instead of using the paper bags, it’s
because they are trying to help the environment by going green. Just as people
are participating there are also many colleges getting involved.
Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts is doing a lot to help this cause. They are starting this new program called, “Sustainability and Ecological Literacy,” to further people’s education on how to minimize their impact in the environment on and off campus. Duke University in Durham, North Carolina dorms are becoming LEED Certified. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. They are even going as far to decorate their dorms with Green decorations. Organic food has become widely known in some colleges. For example, Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut cafeteria is full of Brown’s Farmers Market and Wheaton’s low carbon-meals. A senior by the name of Nina Merrill who comes from the college Coltage University in Hamilton, New York started her own blog about Organic on the Green. Her goal is to get the school to supply greener food. Some colleges offer classes that can further educate you on going green. The College Of Atlantic offers Human Ecology as a design your own major. There is a University in Costa Rica called EARTH University. Their college is dedicated to the environmental sciences. More and more colleges are doing little things to protect the environment and go green. Some colleges even have clubs. There are also many high schools that have clubs as well. I’m sure in months or years there will be even more. One day I was walking to class in downtown Chicago and there were people standing there asking for donations to help the environment and promoting going green. I made a donation and I encourage you to make donations if you can. I also encourage you to start help promoting the cause. I mean without the environment what do we really have?
