cruiseheadlines.jpgRoyal Caribbean’s newest cruise ship, the Oasis of the Seas, departed on in its maiden voyage this past December and is currently the largest passenger vessel in the world providing a one of a kind vacation opportunity. It can accommodate over 5,000 passengers and is eighteen decks high. Currently, it is sailing the Caribbean departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 5 and 7 night cruises. Prices start at $729 per person. Its sister ship, the Allure of the Seas, is also expected to depart Fort Lauderdale in December 2011. Both ships were named by cruising enthusiasts via a contest held by the cruise line.

Oasis of the Seas is packed with numerous innovative amenities. Living accommodations range from 149 square feet (Smaller Inside) all the way up to 1524 square feet (Royal Loft Suite with Balcony) providing room sizes for all budgets. Most suites feature floor to ceiling windows, multiple bathrooms, separate vanities, flat screen televisions, and balconies. Dining choices include a seafood restaurant, steak house, pizzeria, and even a Johnny Rockets as an alternative to the main dining rooms.

The ship is divided into 7 neighborhoods:

Central Park includes over 12,000 plants and 56 trees, a wine bar, art gallery, and other boutiques and restaurants.

Boardwalk is home to the zipline, carousel, tattoo parlor, ice cream shop, donut shop, and the AquaTheatre. The AquaTheatre features a water acrobatic show and is the largest freshwater pool aboard.

The Pool and Sports Zone features two Flowrider wave simulators, two rock climbing walls, a water spray area, and 4 pools and 10 whirlpools. One of the pools is even a sloped entry beach pool.

Royal Promenade is the lobby area of the ship featuring shops and restaurants. It also home to Rising Tide- a bar that moves up and down between 3 of the ships decks.

Vitality Spa & Fitness Center is home to an Asian motif spa and largest fitness center at sea. It also features a dedicated spa area for teens.

Youth Zone is an area geared for those 17 and under and includes an arcade, craft workshop area, kids’ theater, and science lab.

Entertainment Place is where the nightly activities happen. It features a Broadway style theater (currently featuring Hairspray), comedy club, nightclub, jazz venue, casino, and an ice skating themed show. Each neighborhood is dedicated to a godmother including Daisy Fuentes, Gloria Estefan, Jane Seymour, Michelle Kwan, Shawn Johnson, Dara Torres, and Keshia Pulliam.
