RATING
4/5

In this amazing, yet tragic story Rory Culkin plays the character of Sam, the victim of a school bully. Tired of the bully, Sam's older brother Trevor and friend Marty plot their revenge. They invite the bully (Josh Peck plays George) on a boating trip to celebrate Sam's birthday, along with a few other friends. The trip is not to celebrate Sam's birthday though, instead Trevor and Marty plan a cruel trick on George.

Once on the trip they realize that George isn't as bad as they thought, in fact he actually seems somewhat childish and gitty to be included in the celebration. With this it is decided that the prank should be called off. But, Marty isn't so willing to let things go. The group decides to play a game of 'Truth or Dare' during which Marty is dared to drop his pants and he gladly does, giving viewers a glance at his butt. After this excitement things suddenly turn tragic in the game leaving them to face the consequences of their actions.

The story is remarkable, however it is ultimately the actors that bring it to life by giving the characters depth beyond what the story ever could. Rory Culkin does an amazing job in this movie, I see him having a bright career ahead of him. I was also very impressed with Scott Mechlowicz, who plays Marty. He was in the awful film 'Eurotrip' prior to Mean Creek, but with this part I think he proves that he has a great potential at becoming a leading man.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with the movie. It has been rated R, but personally I feel that anyone 13 and older would be fine watching this film and be able to learn a lot from it. This is a must-see for anyone that is looking for a touching movie. I enjoyed watching it and suggest that you check it out as well. You can pick up the DVD in stores, which features commentary by the Director and cast, as well as storyboards and much more.
