Ugly Betty (S4/E12): Blackout PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bhina Patel

uglybetty.jpgNow that Betty has moved into her own apartment and Matt is gone she feels lonely. Therefore, this week she feels that she needs to connect with her neighbors and thus she throws a karaoke party. However, before the party has even begun, burglars are unwittingly let in who steal numerous things.

One of the many possessions that is stolen is Marc’s laptop! He is furious as it contained his submission for a senior fashion editor at Mode. Betty must juggle helping him with another application whilst also fueling the karaoke party. The submission must be on Wilhelmina’s desk by the evening so they continue to work until it’s finished. However, as a blackout hits the whole of the city, Marc and Betty are locked in the apartment complex. They are able to break the lock, all thanks to Bobby, who uses his ‘expertise’ to guide them through the phone. Daniel and Wilhelmina are still at each others throats, due to the fact that they are unable to share Marc without arguing. They are tricked, by Amanda, into going to a counselor to sort out their issues. Daniel is told that there is sexual tension between the two and decides to confront her. However, her reaction is not quite what he imagined.

At the Suarez’ house, Ignacio still dislikes Bobby and is finding it hard to be part of Hilda’s pregnancy without showing contempt for Bobby. However, during the blackout, Ignacio and Bobby begin to bond and become friends. Unfortunately, they receive terrible news at the end of the episode when Hilda discovers that she has suffered a miscarriage. They are all devastated, but Bobby reassures Hilda, and promises to stick by her and Justin.

On a more upbeat note, all ends well for Marc, who gets the junior fashion editor's job, at last moving up from his assistant status. It seems that all the problems he faced with Betty during the episode has meant that they have also bonded and have become ‘friends,' at least for now.
